Marine life
Hurghada is a major touristic destination of Egypt located in the south of the Suez Canal. This city of 87,000 souls has become a tourist mecca for divers from around the world and is now nearly 40 kilometers large. Easy and fast access from European, competitive rates and quality infrastructures, give this city a lot of benefits for a diving trip in Egypt. Hurghada has become the starting point of many liveaboard going to marine reserves like Ras Mahomed, the Straits of Tiran, the drop-offs of Safaga or the reefs of Abu Nuhas. There is, however, no need to navigate that far to find interesting diving spots. It is possible to go diving for one day by jeep or by boat with one of the many dive shops based in the city. They offer to visit the countless dive sites scattered along the rocky coastline. Diving conditions are ideal for people wanting to start or pass their diving Level 1 or open water but also for more experienced divers that want to discover the beauties that the red sea has to offer.
Best time to dive in Egypt
Hurghada is a pleasant holiday destination for diving all year around. However, we advise to avoid the months of December, January and February when temperatures are much cooler on and under the surface of the sea.
Scuba diving conditions
Visibility: Along the coast, between 15 and 40 meters: which delighted most divers!
Currents: Low in this part of Egypt. Ocean currents do not prevent the good practice of this hobby. Beware, however, of the rising wind as the waves can make it difficult to access certain dive sites.
Difficulty: Hurghada is an ideal destination to start diving. Experienced divers are more likely to choose a diving cruise or to venture further north-eastern Sinai.
Water temperatures drop to 20°C in December and jump to 30°C in July and August.
